ISTE Standard 2: Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments
Overview
"Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the Standards."
a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativityMy students frequently use digital tools to help develop their creativity and help them achieve mastery of their learning targets. They also have had the opportunity to learn basic code syntax and Boolean logic through Scratch to create online learning games for younger students. Artifact One is a Scratch project from a former second grade student, and Artifact Two is a Google Slide presentation I gave to faculty at my school about Story Bird, which is an online story creator for students. The presentation includes sample work from students.

b. Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progressIn order for students to truly partner with teachers and invest in their learning, they must have the opportunity to set their own goals and track their progress throughout the schoolyear. My students had the opportunity to participate in Genius Hour last year, where they were given 30 minutes twice a week to pursue a project of their choice, or research and explore things they were curious about. Many of them chose to use online tools to help create their final projects. They also set goals and tracked their academic progress through their online goal notebooks. Artifact One is a script from a play my student ultimately filmed and edited entirely on her cell phone, and Artifact Two is a sample of our grade level's online goal notebook.
